Sarayah Rogers

Chairman

Sarayah is the Co-founder and former Director of Business Development for Humanmade. Now at Dolby Labs, Sarayah started at Techshop as an events manager. It was there that Sarayah found her passion for continuous learning and affecting change in the world. As a co-founder of Humanmade, Sarayah’s commitment to impacting the lives of others helped form Humanmade into the organization it is today. To the Board, Sarayah brings her deep understanding of Humanmade’s mission as well as her devotion to Bay Area communities to help propel our mission forward.

Colin Jaramillo

Secretary

Colin is an IT Specialist and Facilities Manager for the Santa Clara Resource Center. With a blend of unique skills serving the nonprofit sector, and coming from a Makerspace and Anthropological background, Colin brings a unique set of skills to the Humanmade board. Colin is also Familiar with Cisco-Meraki cloud-managed networks, Server 2008/2012 with domain controls, and Faronics Deep Freeze Management. Colin is no stranger to IT buildout/construction environments from negotiations with ISPs, computer imaging, and security access systems, and helped both Techhshop and Humanmade build out its facilities.

James Otteson

James C. Otteson, a Managing Director of the Partner Practice Group. James brings his 30 years of experience as a Bay Area attorney advising partners and law firms on trends and conditions in the lateral market, identifying opportunities, and providing strategic insight. As a former partner at two AmLaw, 100 law firms and the founder of a successful Intellectual Property litigation boutique, James leverages his unique perspective to assist the Humanmade Board.

Cameron Matzke

Cameron is a Systems Architect for Cruise with a passion for making and building. With an extensive background in the Bay Area Maker Movement, Cameron brings almost a decade of Mechanical Engineering and hardware experience to Humanmade’s growing work in the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Development sector. Cameron aims to use his experience to pay it forward to others,and help guide our understanding of the ever evolving advanced manufacturing sector.

 

Management

Ryan Spurlock

Founder & CEO

As the Founder and Executive Director of Humanmade, Ryan’s mission is to empower individuals in our community to become the next generation of inventors, designers, makers, and manufacturers by providing access to the best training, tools, and facilities. Formerly the General Manager of TechShop San Francisco, and through his continued work at Humanmade, Ryan has assisted thousands of Bay Area residents gain life changing skills and guided them on their path to economic sustainability. Ryan continues to use his combined experience to evolve the traditional makerspace model by providing underserved Bay Area residents access to costly hands-on learning experiences through workforce development-based training and career placement programs.

As a long-time contributor and supporter of the maker/manufacture movement, Ryan is passionate about growing the movement into a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable manufacturing sector; while also enabling individuals to utilize the tools of the modern maker economy to gain the skills needed to fill essential manufacturing jobs in the Bay Area and provide equitable opportunities for all.  

J.D. Sassaman

Chief Innovation and Impact Officer

JD joined Humanmade in 2024 as the Chief Innovation and Impact Officer. She is passionate about connecting 2D design to 3D fabrication and exploring the messy realities and complex opportunities around how our world gets built. She has designed, launched and led a variety of innovation spaces including Newlab Detroit and Autodesk’s San Francisco Technology Center (Pier 9). With a background in architecture, design, and craft she is truly excited by the challenge of creating technical spaces that unlock creativity, connection and joy. She lives in San Francisco with her partner and is teaching her kids how to swing a hammer.

Sandra Spurlock

Director of Programs and Operations

Sandra Spurlock has over 15 years of experience in facility and employee management, specializing in operational leadership, workforce development, and program administration. As the Director of Programs and Operations at Humanmade, she oversees day-to-day operations, program outcomes, curriculum development, and strategic planning. With a strong background in research and data-driven decision-making, she implements systems that enhance efficiency, optimize resources, and improve personnel management.

Sandra has been instrumental in securing funding through competitive grants, government contracts, and strategic partnerships, ensuring Humanmade’s sustainability and growth. Her expertise in fundraising, process improvement, and program development has strengthened Humanmade’s role as a leading innovation and workforce development hub, expanding opportunities for participants and fostering long-term success.

Amber Anderson

Program Manager and Client Support & Outreach Coordinator

Amber Anderson, ACSW serves as the Program and Client Support Manager for the Next Generation Manufacturing Training at Humanmade. She has extensive experience in supporting community members throughout the Bay Area in establishing and achieving both personal and professional goals, working collaboratively with each individual to strengthen their unique skills and interests. Her experience as a supervisor and program manager informs soft skill curriculum and professional development activities, and her experience supporting individuals from broad backgrounds, industries and experiences guides the individualized training plans for each participant to achieve their career ambitions. She provides instruction, mentorship and guidance to participants, furthering their career development process and assisting them on their path to meaningful employment. 

Jasper Thomas

Lead NGMT Program Instructor

As Humanmade's Lead NGMT program instructor, Jasper's expertise includes hands-on instruction in CNC and manual mills, basic metal shop tools, and computer training in CAD and CAM using Fusion 360, along with blueprint reading and creation. As a dedicated educator, he crafts inclusive and adaptable curricula that empower students of all skill levels to excel. Previously, as Humanmade's Additive Manufacturing 3D Instructor, Jasper gained extensive experience in curriculum development. Recognizing his talent for creating effective programs, Humanmade's founder entrusted him with leading and revitalizing the NGMT program, where he developed a cohesive and impactful curriculum that prepares students for success in manufacturing careers while advancing his own professional growth.

Outside of work, Jasper has been a passionate visual artist for over 35 years, focusing recently on analog photography. Using manual cameras for full creative control, he shares his instant photography daily on social media, highlighting his dedication to art alongside his professional work.

Emily Coker

Innovation Lab Manager

Emily has been active in shops throughout the Bay Area for the past 10+ years. Her role with Humanmade is to ensure the shops and machines run smoothly. As a certified machinist, she's a subject matter expert in the metal shop but can help guide shop users in all areas of the shop. When not in the shop, Emily enjoys tinkering with watches, building and thinking about miniatures, bookbinding, playing video games, and reading to her cats, Phoebe and Cyd.


Staff

Jody Roane

NGMT Instructor: Additive Manufacturing

Jody is a U.S. Army Veteran who graduated from the Additive Manufacturing program at Humanmade in 2024. Jody has a background in 3D modeling, character design, 3D animation, Programming, and Computer Manufacturing. He began his Journey at Humanmade in Cohort 17 of the Advance Next Generation Manufacturing Training in search of a career. There they learned the fundamentals of CAD modeling in Fusion 360 and became an assistant instructor helping to teach Fusion 360 and 3D printing. After learning the instructor ropes they stepped into their current role as the lead instructor of the 3D Additive Manufacturing training program. Jody is also fairly involved in the regular maintenance of some of the machines in the shop. If he isn’t helping you build confidence in a new skill you can find him putting the final touches on your favorite tool.

Edgar Padilla

NGMT Assistant Instructor: CNC Manufacturing

Edgar took part of the Additive NGMT program cohort 15 in 2023 where he first developed his rapid prototyping skills through 3d printing and lasering. Continuing to take on additional capabilities of the workspace he has learned CNC milling for the Tormach and Shopbot. His automotive diagnostic and repair background enables problem solving and manual skills that are applied to his hobbies like 2d video game programming, 8-bit breadboard computer and, of course, electric go kart.

Sola Yamamoto

NGMT Assistant Instructor: Additive Manufacturing

Sola is a recent Next Generation Manufacturing Training Cohort 19 graduate, now working with Humanmade as the Additive Manufacturing Assistant Instructor. Her role in the classroom is to best provide students resources and aid them as they embark on their journey into the manufacturing world, learning Fusion 360, 3D printing manufacturing, along with her background in Graphic Design and Collaborative Design thinking. Throughout the curriculum, Sola's goal is to foresee and encourage those learning new skills to reinforce fundamental tools and practices with her charisma and methodical ways of creative problem-solving.

Ashley Clayton

Project Specialist

Ash has been with Humanmade since its opening in 2019 and specializes in woodworking and digital manufacturing. He is highly skilled in the wood shop, where he focuses on advanced woodworking techniques and supports members with a variety of projects. Ash’s role includes teaching workshops, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and contributing to the development of new programs and training opportunities to enhance member skills. He also plays a key role in ensuring the workshop environment remains organized, functional, and welcoming.

With a BA in Japanese Language from San Francisco State University and a strong background in craftsmanship and design, Ash brings a unique perspective to Humanmade’s creative and technical offerings. In addition to his instructional and maintenance work, he builds custom electric guitars, showcasing his expertise and passion for woodworking.

Edmond Soun

Project Specialist

Edmond first joined the team as a volunteer instructor in the digital manufacturing lab soon after Humanmade opened in 2019. In November 2024, he came on full-time as a Project Specialist with a focus on textiles: repairing, teaching, and developing curriculum for Humanmade's six industrial sewing machines, fleet of domestic machines, and CNC embroiderer. Drawing on his background in education and textile work for theater, film, and utility applications, he’s ready to help everyone—from absolute beginners to seasoned shop veterans—bring their ideas to life. And as someone with experience in every corner of the shop, he’s particularly interested in bridging different manufacturing domains in innovative ways. So, have a project in mind? Jesica Salinas

Project Specialist

Jesica is a Jr. Project Specialist Apprentice at Humanmade, where she’s learning to maintain, repair, and upgrade equipment across the metal shop, woodshop, and the entire makerspace. A graduate of Cohort 13 in the NGMT CNC Machinist program, she’s developing her technical skills with a strong focus on safety and efficiency. She likes tackling challenges and finding solutions, always eager to fix things and improve operations. She supports NGMT trainees, assists in workshops, and helps with youth programs, ensuring a safe and positive environment. Known for her enthusiasm and problem-solving mindset, she’s always ready to dive into any task and contribute to team goals. With a clear ambition to grow into a Project Specialist, Jesica is committed to continuous learning and supporting Humanmade’s success.

Jeannie Llewellyn

Project Specialist

Jeannie is an avid maker who got her Masters in Industrial Design at SFSU. She has owned and ran a laser cutting business as well as taught middle and high school students STEAM camp, woodshop camp, and fab lab. She has been in maker spaces since Tech Shop, Maker Nexus, Ace Monster Toys, M0xy, and now Humanmade - one of the cleanest and best experiences. Other things to know about Jeannie: she has a BS Landscape Architecture from UCB, Network Enginerd for about ten years, and worked in commercial/investment real estate. She has ran investment and financial seminars and workshops for investors, women in business, and kids.

Coco Candelario

Member Services Expert

Coco has been involved with Humanmade's Member Services since 2021. While they are mostly seen at the front desk, they also work behind the scenes for Humanmade's social media, marketing, and outreach. Their background in illustration and graphic design goes hand-in-hand with any artistic needs that the shop may have. They usually answer questions about membership, but are also happy to provide insight on anything design related. Outside of work, Coco enjoys coordinating outfits, playing video games, and drawing comics.

Victor Smith

Member Services Expert

Vic joined the Humanmade community in 2023 as part of NGMT Cohort 15, and began working in Member Services in January 2024. He has worked in a variety of industrial and manufacturing environments over his work history, in production and operations, as well as on the backend in purchasing and logistics. His favorite thing about Humanmade is getting to be around and witness so much positive creative energy and people. Vic's creative interests are kaleidoscopic (which is actually a rather apt description, seeing as they revolve around light and color). When he's not sitting behind the front desk, Vic enjoys (in no particular order): exploring San Francisco on foot, spending time at the beach, and walking dogs.

Alex Anoshko

Member Services Expert

Alex grew up in wild Siberia. For 15 years he worked in Moscow automating business processes in different companies. He moved to Silicon Valley 5 years ago chasing a dream to become a better software engineer with a big desire to work closer to hardware. Nowadays he manages IT infrastructure at Humanmade, greet guests on the front desk during evening shifts, and continues to study during his free time.
